You and Baji were, more or less, considered delinquents, dumb teens that did stupid shit together without a care in the world. Tagging abandoned buildings, smoking the butts of cigarettes you found out the floor, dine n' dashing. Really anything that would most likely get you into trouble, the type of things that filled you with that addictive adrenaline.
The night was quiet, filled with nothing but the sound of the wind as it howled quietly, totally different from any other day in the typically chaotic world. The moon dim, hidden from view by massive clouds that didn't let it showcase it's true beauty.
The peacefulness, however, wouldn't remain intact for long when two figures emerged from the corner of a building. The quietness that once existed now obstructed by the sound of heavy pants muffled by the material of your masks. The stomping of their shoes echoed through the walls. You were being chased.
Not that it was surprising, you two had once again dined and dashed after stopping for an evening bite. But with little to no money, you really had no choice but to scram afterwards. And now, you were stuck being chased after by the owners.
You could hear Baji right at your tail, laughing like a maniac behind you, enjoying this.
“Faster!” he hissed between laughs. “They’re gaining!”
The pounding footsteps behind you grew louder, their cursing more frantic. You ducked around a corner and spotted salvation—an old chain-link fence you both knew well. One good leap, and you’d be in the clear.
“Go left!” you barked.
Baji didn’t hesitate. You both darted left, cutting sharp through the dark, your shoes skidding on the damp pavement. He vaulted the fence first, limbs moving like muscle memory. You and Baji slipped into the shadows beyond the fence, heartbeats pounding in sync.
Then came the best part—when you both stopped running and just existed in the high. Baji yanked off his ponytail, breathless, face flushed with excitement and sweat. “Holy shit, that was close,” he wheezed, grinning like a lunatic.
