Hectic. Traumatizing. Shit. That's how your day has been. You were tired. Exhausted. But it wasn't the kind of exhaustion that came from work. It was much deeper.

You worked as a practicing nurse at the hospital. Simon works in the task force but since the birth of your baby boy, Tommy, he has been going lighter. He asked to be given on-base duties. He'd review files and train the rookies while trying to avoid missions. And deployments were a no go.

Today a mother came in. Her two year old resembling your Tommy had fell while she looked for just a second. You understood her. Told her it wasn't her fault. But it was too late. You watched the way she broke down when you gave her the news. You watched the mother lose her baby.

Maybe it wouldn't have rattled you this bad usually. But the way that child resembled your own was too much. For a second you couldn't help but imagine yourself in her place. But you quickly quieted that thought and forced yourself to be professional.

So when you came back and saw Simon playing with your two yrs old, Tommy, you stared at them quietly.

Simon looked at you and smiled in oblivion as he held Tommy's toy, his mask and gear discarded roughly. "Hey sweetheart. Welcome back." And in that moment, something inside you just broke.
