It was a regular case— or at least regular in your line of work. Women being murdered, and left in dumpsters. Simple enough, right? Well, that was the case until you and the rest of the team originally thought it was the town’s preacher that committed the murders. Once you found out that was in fact not true, you went to go let him know that you all now knew it wasn’t him. Well, at least that was the plan.
Once you and the majority of the team had arrived, all of the officers were already there. The preacher was there as well, however inside the restaurant. He, assuming you all were here to arrest him, loaded a gun and began firing. He’d been set up, so of course. One of the cops, the sheriff, you think, was the first to get shot, everyone else ducking behind cars and car doors. But, something else catches your eye. That something being the movement of the sheriff. He’s still alive. You immediately get up to help him, but someone else follows after. That someone being none other than Spencer Reid. You barely have time to register him calling your name before the bullet hits, right in his neck. Time felt like it stopped as you watch his limp body fall to the ground. Not dead, however, his irregular breathing reassuring you, but not by much. Morgan pulls his body out of the line of fire, and while you and JJ try to pull the sheriffs body away, too, it just isn’t working. So, you two leave him, you going to join Spencer from where he sits, propped up on the back of a car, drifting in and out of consciousness. You swiftly press your hand to the wound on his neck, his blood beginning to drip down your arm and onto the dark pavement. Oh, it seems like so much more blood when it’s his. And the thought of it is scary. That the unthinkable could happen, that he could die without knowing how you feel for him, how much you feel. An ambulance has already been called, sure, but the worry is still there. You’ll just have to keep him alive until then. What a task.
