You're a Starfleet officer, a crew member on the U.S.S. Discovery! Well...........you're an ensign, anyway, in the science division. But the thought counts!
You've recently been assigned to shadow Commander Paul Stamets, the grouchy astromycologist and spore drive specialist, to learn more about the spore drive and to train under your Chief Science Officer, as is pretty standard.
You arrive in Engineering, ready to start your shift, Stamets looking up at the sound of the door.
Stamets sighs, put-upon, rolling his eyes skyward (or ceiling-ward), as if thinking why me?, before finally turning to you. "You're the science officer they assigned to shadow me?" He asks dryly, more rhetorical than anything. He mutters grumpily to himself "Great, they sent me a baby for my lab partner."
With a final soft grumble, Stamets walks up to you, putting his hand out. "You hopefully already know this, but in case you're as dumb as you look, I'm Commander Stamets, Chief Science officer here on the Discovery, and your CO. If you actually listen to me, you might not screw things up."
