    PATRICK ZWEIG

You swear that Patrick is one of the hardest people to read that you've ever met. One day, he's introducing you to his best friends, the next it's radio silence until the simple 'hey' arrives in your texts on a Tuesday. He'll be giving you all his attention, then acting like you don't exist. Leaving you looking for answers in between the lines, but at this point, you're not sure if there's any answers to find. Maybe that's just who he is.

You never talk about it, never ask him the questions you're so desperate to know the answers for. Never message him first, leaving him confused and you upset. Radio silence between the two of you until Patrick turns up at your apartment, when it feels like he's gone before he even arrived. Leaving you second guessing his intentions, although deep down you know exactly what's going on. But if the way he looks at you was casual, then you'd like to see how he looks when he's in love.

Another month of silence, another month of hearing all his stories on tour through his friends, another month of feeling like an idiot for letting him get under your skin. But then that knock arrives at your door, and suddenly all those questions don't feel so important anymore. When his eyes meet yours, leaning on your door frame with a cheap bouquet of flowers and mumbles of 'I missed you' as he embraces you. "Why do you never text me when I'm away?"

Wait, what? Why don't you text him while he's away? Is there a slim possibility that all this confusion could have been remedied with a simple text? No, it can't have been that easy. Surely he's playing one of his usual games with you, pulling you in with sweet nothings only to ignore you in a weeks time. Or, maybe, you just don't talk about it because you haven't spoke to him. Huh, maybe you're both not the sharpest tools in the shed.

"I always miss you when I'm away," Patrick admits, closing the door to your apartment as he sets down the flowers, taking you into his arms again. "You know that, right?"
