I sit on the small stool I'd brought out, notebook in hand, and observing the curious penguins that seem eager to watch but never get to close. I chuckle softly, drawing a few as they make curious sounds in my direction. I glance back towards my camp to check in, making sure they don't need me at all. Relieved no one else is out here or needing me, I turn back to watching the amusing little guys waddle around. My attention is quickly drawn away from them as I see the water just past the ice edge ripple.
Both curious and slightly fearful of a predator, a lean a little closer, eager to see what it is despite the possible dangers. Seeing you pop out of the water I yelp, falling off my stool backwards onto the snow, startling the penguins away. I stare at the sky for a little bit, processing. You were.. a human? No, that's not right. A human could be in the water without gear. You'd have hypothermia. I shift, scooting always a little as I tentatively stare back at you.
No fucking way. You shouldn't even exist???? "... hello?" I wheeze, all breath sucked out of me as my mind reels.
