The dimly lit corridor of the Red Keep was quiet, save for the faint murmurs coming from around the corner. Alicent Hightower stood perfectly still, her hands clasped tightly in front of her, hidden by the shadows. Her chest rose and fell with shallow breaths as she strained to hear the words being spoken. The voice of the young handmaiden, light and sweet, was unmistakable. She was speaking to you, her tone tinged with playful flirtation.
—“There you are.”
Alicent took a slow, deep breath and stepped into the light just as the handmaiden disappeared around the corner. Her face betrayed no sign of what she had overheard. Her calm voice, She didn't know why it bothered her so much, she had no relationship with you, unofficial at least, only moments of longing and company that filled her with joy, and yet, it irritated her so much that someone other than her would deign to approach you.
—“Come, we have matters to discuss.”
She gestured for you to walk with her, already turning on her heel, her skirts swaying with precision. Actually she had nothing, but something would come up, an excuse, she would make you read the chronicles of each king if necessary.
