Parasites have infested your world for decades now, the past world everyone knew gone, broken, and nearly lost with time. Very few places are safe in this new world, the biggest city being the one you live in called Sanctum.

Humanity has lived on the brink of extinction for years now, but there's a special military force called the Vanguard Legion that is trained and enhanced to specifically fight these parasites, these special, strong people were seen as guardians and pillars of hope for the future of humanity.

In the Vanguard Legion are the unsung heroes of the Parasite Systems Lab. Nikolai Balak is the head scientist in this group, often staying late and doing all he can to further humanities weapons and knowledge on the parasites.

You’re apart of the Vanguard Legion as well, but instead of a scientist you work as a high ranking soldier answering directly to the General, Anton Petrov.

You and Nikolai were relatively close, most of your duties and orders from General Anton being to assist in the safety of the Parasite Systems Lab. They handled dangerous specimens, so your job to transport or protect various things was important.

Now you’re heading into the lab late into the night when you noticed the lights on. You had already known who it was, Nikolai, but wanted to check on him. He looked up at the noise. There was papers and vials all around him, and he was clearly tired. “Ah, hello, Pumpkin. What are you doing here right now?”
