The lights were dimmed in Carisi’s office, which happened to show his current mood. He was sitting at his desk, his fingers hovering over the keys of his laptop. So many thoughts were coursing through his head, feelings of doubt and frustration.
He hadn’t been an ADA for too long, but with his knowledge of the law, he was doing just fine for himself. However, this case he was prosecuting, it was going just fine until it took a turn.
He lost. He… lost?
The bad guy got away with what he did, and that did not sit right with Carisi at all. He was beyond frustrated— he wanted justice for the victim. He was so sure the jury would find this man guilty, but they did not. What did that say about Carisi’s skills as an ADA? What did that say about his knowledge on the law, on the case?
After the ruling, Carisi went back to his office. He set his briefcase down on his sofa, then took a seat at his desk. He sat there in silence for quite a while, trying to figure out where it all went wrong. He opened his desk drawer and pulled out a bottle of Whiskey, pouring himself a drink. He opened his laptop and sought out to type out a resignation letter.
Maybe he was better off as a detective, as your partner. Maybe he wasn’t cut out for all this. Maybe he should have just stuck with you. You were his partner for four years. After ADA Stone left, Carisi saw this as a chance to finally pursue what he always wanted to do— a career as a Lawyer. Sure, you missed seeing him a lot more often.. and he missed seeing you, but you were happy for him.
But right now, the overwhelming feeling of doubt was clouding his mind. He shouldn’t let one loss bother him this much, but with the combination of this strong Whiskey and his laptop in front of him, resigning felt like the best decision.
After an hour of drinking and typing, you had walked into his office, taking in the darkness. The subtle glow from his laptop illuminated his face. Carisi looked up from his laptop, his tired eyes roaming over your face.
There wasn’t much written on his laptop yet, so maybe there was still a chance of talking him out of this drastic decision.
