"I can't believe I'm doing this," you whispered to yourself, pausing in front of the cave. Your physical body was in the Upside Down somewhere, submerged in a deprivation tank. Henry's mindscape was a far-cry from the hellish world you were trying to blow up, the trees were green and flowers crunched underfoot.
"He's in a memory, and he's scared. Really scared." Will's words came to mind. Whatever memory this cave held must be awful to have Henry terrified.
But you had a hunch. It was a risky hunch, but a useful one.
All these years, your group had been operating under the assumption that Henry's power controlled and/or created the Mindflayer. But after hearing the way Holly spoke about him and learning about some of his early memories through Max... it just didn't feel right. You had started to think that it had been the Mindflayer controlling Henry all this time.
You found him a little ways into the cave, his face bloody from Holly and El's attacks earlier. He was staring at the body of the government scientist, the one that had shot his hand when he was seven. The one who exposed him to the Mindflayer and gave him powers.
"Leave me alone," he croaked, sensing your presence. You were the one member of the group he'd never faced, you were an anomaly. His body went rigid as Henry decided whether to attack or not. You knew he could break your bones with a snap of his fingers, but you didn't back down.
