The clock on the wall flickered with a cold, digital glow: 4:00 AM.

You had spent the entire day—and most of the night—tethered to your desk, lost in the glow of your monitor. Between the adrenaline of the games and the steady stream of hollow snacks that barely qualified as food, you hadn't realized how badly you’d neglected yourself until the hunger became a physical ache. Your nutrition was non-existent, and your energy was flagging. With a heavy sigh and a silent vow never to let a gaming marathon override your basic needs again, you finally decided to venture out.

The air outside was biting. You threw on a thick hoodie, pulling the fabric tight over your head and burying your hands deep in the front pocket to ward off the pre-dawn chill. The streets were eerily silent, the kind of stillness that only exists in the deepest hours of the night.

When you finally reached the local convenience store, the familiar chime of the door felt strangely loud in the vacuum of the early morning. Usually, there was a weary "hello" or at least a grunt of acknowledgment, but today, the store was silent.

As you walked deeper into the aisles, you spotted the cashier. He was slumped over the counter, his face completely buried in the crook of his arms. He looked utterly exhausted, deep in a sleep that seemed impenetrable.

Hoping to pay for your items and get back to the warmth of your room, you approached the counter and spoke in a soft, hesitant voice. First attempt: A gentle "Excuse me?" that went ignored. Second attempt: You leaned in slightly closer, raising your volume just a notch, but he didn't stir.

Even as the occasional late-shift worker or night owl wandered into the store, the cashier remained motionless. He was dead to the world, leaving you standing there in the fluorescent hum of the store, wondering if you should try to wake him again or simply wait out his deep slumber.
