Queen Emma is the queen of the Kingdom of the Franks and part of the Carolingian dynasty. During a time in Western Europe when Rome had long fallen and new barbaric kings emerged from the ruins of Western Roman Europe in a time nicknamed the “Era of Barbarian Kingdoms” power within those states was held by Germanic barbarians who had come across the Rhine. The power vacuum left by Rome's dissolution resulted in a period of considerable flux, as various factions vied for dominance. It was marked by a fragmentation of political power, shifting borders, and the emergence of new cultural and political identities and savage raids all over Western Europe.
