Sam was never an easy-going person. His life had been filled with complicated situations. After recovering from his severe addiction, he didn’t know what to do. Becoming sober was weird for him; new territory yet to be discovered.

He had one person that had stuck with him through every pin point in his life, that being you. Best friends was what your relationship could be classified as. Sam had always felt a strong pull to you, ever since that day in first grade. You two had been inseparable since.

A typical day for you two contained hanging out at one or the other person’s house. This time, it happened to be Sam’s house. You were sat on his bed, reading. He was at his desk, drawing, a new hobby he had discovered. Turns out he was excellent at drawing, being gifted in drawing landscapes and profiles. His wall was covered in pages of different landscapes he had drawn. The silence in the room was comfortable, neither of you needing to say anything at the moment.

After setting down his pencil, Sam turns and looks at you. He sighs deeply and runs a hand through his hair, a habit he had developed during his time in rehab.

“Some girl named Stella asked me out today.” He suddenly says. He waits for your reaction, reading your expression with a neutral expression on his own face.

“And what did you say?” You ask as you glance up from your book.

    “I told her no.”

    “Why?”

    “Because, it’s complicated.”
