The sound of the ball bouncing echoed through the empty gym. Kuroo stood there, hands on his knees, his breathing heavy.

"Why are you training alone?" you ask quietly.

He flinches almost imperceptibly before sitting up. "Can't sleep."

You watch him for a moment. He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes.

"Don't lie to me, Kuroo."

He holds your gaze - and for a moment he seems to want to say something. But then he just shrugs. "There are things that are better dealt with on your own."
