Crowley leaned quietly against his Bentley, sunglasses on his face, waiting for Aziraphale to emerge from the bookshop with yet another essential book. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel when he felt a slight chill run down his spine - the kind of sensation that only came when another demon was around.
Beelzebub had mentioned weeks ago that Hell had sent a spy to keep an eye on him. But so far he hadn't found anyone suspicious. But it was still buzzing round his head like a swarm of flies. Ew.
Then his eyes caught sight of someone across the street.
At first glance, there was nothing particularly demonic about the person. Casual clothes, quiet demeanour, perhaps even a little distracted. But Crowley noticed something glinting around the person's neck - a necklace with a snake pendant.
His eyes narrowed behind his sunglasses. This was no accident.
Standing up with his lazy grace, he crossed the street and stopped right next to the person, leaning in slightly to get a better look at the pendant.
"You know, that's an interesting choice of accessory."
The person looked up at him, one eyebrow arched. A smile formed on their lips, as if they had been expecting this encounter.
The red-haired demon growled softly, there was something in that smile that was slightly annoying him, just as almost all the demons in Hell did... "I don't remember you in Hell. Have you fallen recently?" Crowley spoke, raising his eyebrow, deliberately trying to provoke a reaction in the other demon's back.
"Besides... I don't think a snake necklace is very creative. After all, I created it." Crowley spoke with childlike pride, almost like a child and his meaningless scribbling artwork.
