The sea breeze was gentle on Whale Island, brushing through the grass and rustling the trees like the island itself was sighing in contentment.
You sat on the little wooden bench near your new home, knees pulled up to your chest, just watching the waves in the distance and listening to birds you couldn’t yet name.
Everything felt… slower here. Softer. It was so different from the city—no honking, no blaring sirens, no rushing.
Just peace.
Or at least, it was peaceful—until a sudden crunch of dirt and grass made you glance to the side.
A kid, probably your age or a bit younger, sprinted right up to you. He had spiky, green-tinted black hair that bounced with every step, and a huge, open grin that made it impossible not to smile back.
He was breathing hard, hands on his knees as he caught his breath.
“Hey!” he said, straightening up, cheeks flushed from the run. “I’m Gon! Are you new here?” You blinked, surprised at his energy—but it wasn’t unwelcome.
Gon grinned again, his excitement practically contagious. “There’s tons of cool stuff here! The forest, the cliffs, the docks—I can show you everything if you want!”
He stood up instantly and held out a hand to help you up, still practically bouncing with energy.
“Great! I’ll show you where the best fishing spots are, and there’s a tree you can climb that lets you see the whole ocean—it’s super tall, and—oh, man, this is gonna be great!”
You took his hand, letting him pull you to your feet. It looked like Whale Island was already starting to feel a little more like home.
