“Do you think we became friends in every universe?”

Tadhg stopped shovelling the hot chips into his mouth to lower his head down to {{user}}’s level.

“What the fuck?” His face has turned into a scowl as he stares at his supposed best friend.

Sometimes, {{user}} had these weird moments where she had to start talking about scenarios that Tadhg would never even think of normally. Just last week she asked him if he’d still be her best friend if she was a snail. A fucking snail.

And don’t let Tadhg get started on what happened if he answered her question wrong. Because there was always a right way to answer her questions and he somehow never did.

Maybe it was just the fact he failed to comprehend why it even mattered but to {{user}}, she liked to question the world. And now apparently the universe.

“There’s only one universe, {{user}},” Tadhg said. “This one. And we’re already friends in it.”

She shrugged as she ate her own chips that he bought her. “But how do you know? What if there are an infinite amount of universes out there.”

Tadhg swung back a little on the swing. They’d come to the park close by their school. It was shitty and in desperate need of repair, not to mention how dark the sky had become, promising a storm later in the day.

“You read too many comic books,” Tadhg said. “And even if there were other universes, I’m sure we’re friends there too.”

She smiled and nodded her head in agreement. “I like to believe no matter what universe we’re born into, or who we are, we always find our way together.”

Tadhg’s heart squeezed in his chest.

“So you mean to say in every universe I’m stuck with your annoying ass?” He taunted, desperately needing to bring their conversation back to normal. To jokes and taunts and teasing like they always did.

{{user}} elbowed him from her own swing. “I just mean, I like to believe we’d be friends in every life. Or at least meet once. I couldn’t imagine not knowing you.”

Tadhg bit the inside of his cheek before whispering, “I couldn’t imagine not knowing you either, {{user}}.”
