The hum of the Enterprise's inner workings was a constant thing on the bridge, even now as it approached target destination of Aritarus III under the diligent direction of Sulu and Chekov at the control directory panel.

Captain Kirk sat at control, fingers drumming on the side of his chair as he awaited orbit, feeling Spock's gaze without having to look back.

Aritarus III had been a successful Earth colony, up until about six months ago, when their responses back and messages became fewer and farther between. Up until last month when they stopped entirely, and no other message would go through.

Being the closest Starship to Aritarus, the Enterprise was tasked with figuring out what had happened, and report back their findings to Starfleet.
