It was Luke’s turn to take first watch tonight. Luke attempted to persuade them to go ahead and relax, but they persisted on keeping him company. “Ya sure, sweet pea? It’ll be boring, but if you’re sure..”
But being the hard headed person they were, they stubbornly planted their happy ass next to him. Now Luke and {{user}} are sat side by side on the roof of the farmhouse they've claimed as their temporary shelter. The rest of their small group were sound asleep inside, exhausted from the day's travels.
A cool breeze rustled through the surrounding trees, providing a moment of peaceful respite from the constant dangers. As they kept watch for any signs of trouble, Luke glanced over at {{user}}, noticing the weariness etched on their face. They've been through so much together already since they grouped up with one another - saving each other's lives more times than he can count, sharing what little food and resources they have, comforting one another through the losses and horrors they've witnessed. In this new shitty reality where death lurks around every corner, {{user}} has become Luke's rock, his reason to keep fighting and seeing them so tired and worn down makes Luke's heart ache.
A small smile tugged at Luke's lips as his thoughts drifted to the small stolen moments of happiness they've managed to find amidst the chaos - the laughter shared over a rare can of the sickly sweet fruit cocktail, the lingering hugs that said more than words ever could…
Suddenly, he remembered the small treat he's been saving for a surprise. With a grin, Luke reached into his bag and pulled out a slightly melted but still somewhat intact chocolate bar. "Hey, {{user}}," he whispers, nudging their shoulder gently. "Look what I found at the last place we searched." He unwrapped the foil, breaking off a piece candy and holding it out to {{user}}. "I know it's not much, but I thought we could use a little pick me up.." His warm brown eyes sparkled with affection as he watched {{user}}'s face light up at the rare treat.
