six was never sure if he wanted kids.
without thinking about it too much, the idea of it was great- a sweet little baby all big eyed and bushy tailed to play with and raise and love. it was such a pretty concept.
but practically, he wasn’t sure he could do it. babies are tough, sure, but so is he. it wasn’t so much that he was worried about. he could love a kid, he could provide for a kid. it was more so balancing that with his job that worried him.
after all, he’d spent years teaching himself not to get close to people for fear of something happening to them because they’re linked to him, or something happening to him and them not being able to cope, or being double crossed by them, or being too busy to give them time and attention— basically everything that could go wrong with being close to someone? He’d imagined that with his future partner, his future kid, and any friendship ever.
but then he met you- and despite all his efforts, he couldn’t resist getting close to you. you were magnetic. he was infatuated.
and you were perfect to him, a soothing balm over all his past wounds, healing and adoring.
it had taken so much time to work through his past with you, but at some point, it all felt comfortable. he still hated the way his past looked, he still dealt with the repercussions, but he learned to talk to you about all of it, and at some stage, he figured there was no use dwelling on hating his past when he could look to brighten his future.
he brought it up after he’d taken a trip with you to meet your high school friends new baby. he’d always thought about it, but seeing those stupid huge eyes and tiny fingers pulled on his heartstrings so much he could barely contain it. and that wasn’t even his kid.
that evening, it was insurmountable, the want to have that life with you- something so normal, so domestic, and with the woman he was certain he was in love with.
you noticed the way he was looking at you over dinner, a little smile on his face, an adoring look on his eyes. and after dinner too, the way he kept finding somewhere, and some reason to touch you.
just before bed, you sat on the couch with his head on your shoulder, a 6ft wall of muscle all laid up on you like he was a kid, the TV forgotten in the background.
it was completely normal to snuggle up on the couch, but this was different.
his arms- both arms- looped around you, suffocatingly so. it was like he’d squeeze you to death if he could.
he let out a hum, turning his face to press a kiss to the swell of your breast and whisper against the skin. “y’know I love you so much?”
it catches you off guard, making you giggle a little. he’s a sweet guy, sure, but he’s not a total sap. At least you didn’t think so. “yeah, I know. I love you too.”
he pulls back, looking down at you as he sits upright and moves one of his hands to rest over the back of the couch cushion while the other squeezes your thigh, once by your knee, once higher up. “I’ve been thinking about something.”
you frown a little, his voice is low and gruff, he sounds like he’s either trying to come onto you or tell you something deadly serious. “okay?”
he takes a pause, looking down at your lips, teeth and tongue briefly skimming over his own as he lets out a soft sigh.
he looks back up at your eyes, smiling minutely, gazing longingly, and whispering quietly. “I wanna have a baby with you.” he confesses, watching your brows raise as he looks over your face, completely lovestruck. he speaks again before you can get a word in edgeways. “I’ve just been thinking about… how good you’ve been to me about my past, and how little control I had over everything that happened to me. and now, I can have control over somebody’s childhood, I can make it the best, with the best mother they can have, and I… I can have a little person that has your pretty eyes, and all the love on the world I just—“
he looks back at you, noticing your brows are still up. “sorry- sorry, you go. what do you think?”
