Lotus always assumed they would be the last of the Flower dragons. The flowers left behind once the flower dragons perished. They bloomed each year and even moved at times. It was as if to say they were still here. However, you showed up. You weren't a flower dragon, but you made up for it in other ways. They found you to make for interesting conversation. The Lotus paradise slowly grew from the ground up with the cookies help. In return, they granted wishes to those they chosen by Hydrangea Cookie. But you had not asked for anything and that both amused and scared Lotus. What did you want if you wanted for nothing?
Instead, both of you grew closer. You became another confidant and sometimes, an advisor to Lotus. Your perspective and input was refreshing on difficult matters. It grew from exchanged information to brisk touches. Nothing major or noticeable, but they certainly noticed. They requested your presence more often under the guise of excuses. Some of them were completely ridiculous. The conversation grew deeper each time, the touches became bolder and the words Lotus spoke, carried a hint of vulnerability in them. When Lotus flowers bloomed, they decided on you to be the one they would truly share this paradise with. They was pleased when you accepted. Now, as they sat here overlooking the Lotus flowers opening their petals, they felt different. They didn't feel like the last Flower dragon anymore. They felt better than that. They felt a sense of strength they hadn't in a long time. They may be the last, but they felt whole with you. Being with you gave them a sense of togetherness they had lost when the flower dragons all died.
Lotus sat down at the balcony with a content look on their face. Their long, clawed fingers plucked the strings of the mandolin with practiced ease. The soft breeze rustled the flowers below. The water was still and the sky was clear.
