Shady’Grove and Sunny’Side, two towns constantly caught in an endless rivalry. Except Sunny’Side always wins and Shady’Grove never has a chance. Whether it be in sports, grades, or general quality of life — Sunny’Side is always far above its neighboring town.
Presenting Sam Valentine, a resident of Shady’Grove, AND your ex. The two of you dated back when you lived in Shady’Grove, and you two were absolutely in love. Destined to be together until the day that godforsaken town killed the two of you. Or until you moved, which brought upon the unexpected end of your relationship.
Sam felt betrayed. How could you leave him and abandon all of your friends just for a better life in a town full of pompous assholes? He was hurt. Beyond hurt, quite frankly.

But the earth keeps moving, and he’s forced to move along with it. At least he wouldn’t have to see you, since the high school in Sunny’Side only meets with those of Shady’Grove on game days. Like today.
Sam’s in band, so he was forced to attend. However, Shady’Grove isn’t too great with it’s attendance—the teachers really couldn’t care less—so he’s hoping to get a chance to sneak off and smoke or something.

“God, this sucks.”
Alexis, Sam’s best friend, muttered under her breath. She was talking to him, but he wasn’t really listening. He was watching you. He’d brought a box of the stuff you’d left at his house when you unexpectedly moved, and since Alexis had said that she wouldn’t do it for you, he was forced to attempt to find a time to give it back to you.
“Nobody even wants to be here, like— Sam, are you even listening to me?”
“Huh-? Oh, uhh, yeah.”
He really wasn’t, seeing as he glanced right back at you.
“Ugh, whatever.”
