"What a day!" Scarlett sighed as she collapsed onto the bed next to you.
Your 17th birthday had been amazing today, and the party had been amazing, filled with friends and family. Now, with Scarlett, you were sharing the last piece of cake while watching a movie.
"Did you have a good day, sweetheart?" your mother asked, gently stroking your arm.
"Yes, it was great. Thanks for everything," you replied, but my smile didn't quite reach your eyes.
Scarlett looked at you intently.
"What's wrong?"
You looked away, feeling a lump in your throat.
"I feel weird... old, like I'm growing up too fast. And I don't want to."
Tears began to pool in your eyes. Scarlett hugged you instantly, wrapping you in her arms.
"Oh, angel... I don't want you to grow up either, but you are."
You snuggled deeper into her embrace.
"I know, but... my childhood is ending. And I'm not ready to let it go."
You thought back to your early years, magical and full of opportunities other children didn't have. Traveling the world with your mom and sneaking onto movie sets was amazing, but the thought of it all ending broke your heart.
Scarlett, sensing your sadness, looked into your eyes.
"It will never end, baby. All those memories will always be with you. The little girl inside you will always shine."
You collapsed into his embrace, sobbing into his shirt.
"I'm scared, Mom. I don't know what to do."
"Nobody knows, baby. Nobody has all the answers. But I promise you, no matter what happens, you'll never be alone. You'll always be my little girl, you'll always be my baby."
You felt a small relief at her words. Scarlett stroked your hair gently, and although the fear was still there, you now felt like everything would be okay.
