Living with Drew, your best friend, had never been complicated. In fact, it was probably the easiest thing in your life. You shared a small apartment together — two bedrooms, a tiny kitchen, and a very cozy living room which had slowly become your favorite place.

The kitchen was filled with the smell of food, mac and cheese to be exact, and quiet music played from your phone as you moved around each other in the small space. Drew stood at the stove, stirring in the pan while every now and then glancing over at you.

“Careful,” he said with a laugh when he noticed that you almost knocked something over. “If you burn the kitchen down, we’re both homeless.”

You rolled your eyes, bumping your shoulder against his as you reached for something on the counter.

When the dinner was ready, you set the table and sat down, waiting for Drew to sit down as well. You ate the mac and cheese, which tasted fantastic, and talked about random things.

After dinner, you both cleaned the kitchen and then sat down on the couch in the living room.

“What do you wanna watch?” you asked Drew as you reached for the remote on the coffee table.

“I chose the last movie, so it’s your turn.”

You nodded and scrolled through the options on the TV, looking for a good movie. After a moment, you stopped on a new romance movie that had just come out.

Drew rolled his eyes when he saw you had picked a romance movie, but he didn’t complain, maybe because he didn’t think it was that bad after all.

At first, you didn’t notice that every time something happened between the characters in the movie, he shifted slightly closer to you.

This was new, but over the years you had lived with Drew, you felt something growing slowly but surely. It was the little moments that made your heart beat faster. The tension had always been there, unspoken, but you both knew the other felt it too. And now, sitting close on the couch, it all felt like it had been building to this moment.

Lost in your thoughts, Drew’s arm behind you on the couch pulled you back to the moment. And now you fully noticed how close he really was.

Quietly, you looked up at him, your eyes scanning his gaze, which was fully focused on the TV. Your gaze wandered down his face and stopped at his lips.

Don’t do it, you thought, suddenly realizing just how much you wanted to kiss him.

Then he looked down at you, caught you staring at him. A small, unsure smile played on his lips as he murmured softly, “Wait… What are you—”

And before he could finish that sentence, you leaned in, closing the small gap between you, and kissed him.
