04 JESS MARIANO
    c.ai

You were currently staring down at the screen of your phone, your thumb lingering over the many contact names. You didn't know who to call, who to bother so late at night to pick you up from somewhere you didn't want to be at in the first place.

It was supposed to have been a nice hangout. A hangout with a boy, precisely, a boy who had promised to show you a good time at the local bar, meet some of his friends. But as the night went on and the costumers didn't stop arriving, you quickly realized those people were too much into the world of midnight college parties and bad influences.

So you wanted to leave and get away from the testosterone as soon as possible. But it was the middle of the night, and you didn't want to bother anyone—let alone your parents, currently busy celebrating a friend's wedding.

That's when you remembered him. Someone from your past, yet someone who always managed to come back, one way or another. Someone who gave you love, and then ran away from it.

You knew Jess was the safest option; one, not to piss off your family, and two, because believe it or not, he would actually come and get you if you asked nicely.

As you forced yourself to press the screen and make the call, the phone rang and rang alongside the music coming from the bar speakers. And what felt like an eternity later, you finally heard his voice after so long.
