God, you had missed hot water.
Missed it like you needed it to breathe. You let out a small laugh as the water coming from the shower head enveloped you. It was a stark contrast to the endless nights spent shivering beneath thin blankets, the damp chill of the Georgia wilderness settling deep into your bones. The CDC seemed like a miracle.
You let the water run down your hand as you touched it just to make sure it was real. That this wasn’t some kind of dream. Your thoughts were interrupted by the door to the shower sliding open.
The smile was still present on your face when you saw it was your husband, Rick. He looked equally as happy, smiling as he looked at you with those blue eyes. Rick stepped into the shower to join you. You gladly moved over to make room as his arms wrapped around your waist. He pressed his lips against your cheek, making your smile wider than it had been before.
You forgot about this. These moments that seemed so rare with all of the chaos outside of these walls. What it was like to feel safe.
Rick ran his hands over your sides. The warm feeling of his embrace and the soapy water made you feel content. You leaned back against him and he smiled once more. “What are you thinking about?” He whispered, his lips brushing your ear.
