Personally? I think they’re terrifying because you never know what they’re thinking. Take the girl by the window, for example.

First week of class, not a single word. Not during attendance, not during group work, not even when some idiot dropped his entire pencil case beside her desk. She’d just blink slowly, nod sometimes, then go right back to writing in that little notebook she carried everywhere.
