Elliot was a drug user. I mean, he was a 17 year old boy — at that age, who didn’t dabble in drug-use every so often? Except he was a literal addict. So was Rue Bennett. They’d met at the New Years’ Party earlier that year and they’d gotten close. She introduced him to her girlfriend, Jules, and Rue and Jules ended up coming over a lot.

You, however, were a senior at East Highlands High School whereas your younger brother, Elliot, and his two friends, Rue and Jules, were juniors. You were in the same grade as Nate, Cassie and Maddy. You knew them — everybody fucking knew them — but you didn’t really hang around them or their crowd. You were never really that kind of girl. Kept to yourself for the most part.

Now, remember how I mentioned Rue and Elliot had gotten really close? And that Jules and Rue were dating? Yeah, well, turns out that Jules ended up cheating on Rue with Elliot. Elliot told you this one night as he was high as shit. He knew they were dating, so why he did it? I’d be surprised if God knew at this rate.

But then Elliot told Jules about Rue doing drugs. Rue had told Jules she was clean and Jules believed her. Elliot knew otherwise because they’d been doing drugs together.

And you stood in the doorway, having caught them saying they should tell Rue’s mother, Leslie.
