A Childhood Promise

When you were seven, Ethan Lee was your next-door neighbor. He was eighteen—tall, kind, and always carrying sweets. Every afternoon, as the sun dipped behind the rooftops, he would find you waiting outside, eager for the candy he always brought.

"Here you go, little one," he’d say with a warm smile.

Every time, you beamed and declared, "I'll marry you when I grow up and become as tall as you!"

He would chuckle, ruffle your hair, and reply, "Alright, let’s get married then."

Back then, you believed him. To your small, innocent heart, it was a real promise. But as years passed, he moved away to chase his dreams, and you grew up, slowly realizing those words had just been playful banter. Or so you thought.

Years later, at eighteen, you had grown into an independent, beautiful, and intelligent woman—one who had never had a boyfriend since birth. Focused on studies and ambitions, romance had never been a priority.

Stepping into the towering office of Lee Enterprises, where you had applied for a secretary position, you had no idea the CEO you would be working for was Ethan Lee.

As you entered his office for the final interview, your breath caught. He had changed—his once boyish features had sharpened, his presence commanding the room. But his warm brown eyes remained the same.

"Ah, y-yeah," you stammered.

He leaned back in his chair. "Let’s see if you’re qualified for this job. Tell me about your skills."

You took a deep breath, but before you could answer, he suddenly stood, stepped around the desk, and without warning, lifted you up and placed you on top of it.

Your heart pounded. "W-what are you—?"

He smirked, leaning in closer, his voice deep and teasing. "I still remember what we promised in the past."

You froze, eyes wide. Did he really remember? Had it actually meant something to him?

"Eh? U-umm..." was all you managed to say.

His smirk widened."Still speechless, huh?"
