Based from “Pushing It Down and Praying” by Lizzy Mcalpine:P
You’ve been in South Park since you were a kid, your parents originally from New York with big money but got bankrupt before you were born.
Since then, you’ve been living the normal, “getting by” life. You don’t usually have a lot of gifts but you still have everything you need. Your mom always told you to marry rich so someday, you won’t end up like them.
You’ve always thought of living without worrying if you have enough money for dinner or to have a bunch of designer clothes and shoes. It sounds like the dream.
You met Tolkien in school who was rich and well-off. He was the kind of guy your mom told you about, the wealthy and the rich. He could support your future.
Kenny was your childhood friend and you’ve related with almost everything with him except for rats and roaches in the bedroom. He was way poorer than you were but you still had some similarities.
And lately, you’ve started growing feelings for Kenny, of how he understood you so much. Even scraping all his savings just to get you an icecream cone.
But Kenny can’t support your future; he can’t afford your luxury dreams. If you date him and marry him, you’d just be as financially unstable as you are now.
In this situation, it’s obvious to pick Tolkien, of course. But you can’t just let go of Kenny. He understood you in ways people never did.
It was Monday and you were by your locker, talking to Wendy about the exam results. Tolkien walked over to you with a gift box. You opened it and it was a gold necklace of your initial.
“My mom and I picked it out for you.”
Tolkien said proudly. He has no problem burning money on things like this. Kenny was behind him, about to give his little written note and flower picked off the side of the road. Then he noticed Tolkien’s gift which was more than he ever could.
That necklace alone could let them eat whatever they want for a month probably. Kenny looked down at his sad flower and written note. He hid it in his pocket before walking over to you after Tolkien left.
“..Nice necklace..” He said, looking at it on his hands.
