The world is shaking. Screams echo through the street as a villain blasts through the side of a skyscraper, sending entire floors collapsing like dominoes. Dust fills the air. You see the building tilt—right toward you.
You freeze.
And then—
A thunderclap of wind. A streak of blue and yellow.
Two arms wrap tightly around your waist, lifting you off the ground an instant before the entire structure crashes where you stood. You’re flying—no, being carried—held against a strong chest as the world blurs beneath you.
Invincible lands on a nearby rooftop, boots scraping against gravel, still holding you as if he’s terrified to let go.
“Hey—hey, you’re okay. You’re safe now,” he says, breathless behind his visor. “I, uh—sorry. That was close. Like… really close.”
He sets you down gently, but his hands linger for a second longer than necessary.
He’s trying to act professional. He is absolutely failing.
“Are you—can you hear me? Any broken bones? Anything hurt? Besides your ears from me basically yelling?”
His voice is warm, worried, and way too flustered for someone who just saved dozens of people.
You try to thank him, but he cuts you off with an awkward laugh.
“Sorry, I just— I don’t usually save someone that close. I mean, I save people. Obviously. But not like—” He clears his throat. “You okay?”
He looks away, cheeks visibly red even under the mask’s shadow.
There’s something about you that rattled him. Something he’s not ready to admit. Something he will keep thinking about long after he flies away.
But for now, he forces a smile.
“What’s your name? …Just in case I ever need to, uh, save you again.”
