Highschool sweethearts. That was what everyone says you and Simon are. Well, were. The break-up had been messy. You wanted to settle down, Simon, he wanted to start a career in the military. Knowing how demanding it'd be, after hours of arguing, you two had separated.

That was years ago. You two kept up contact— somewhat. Occasional messages here and there, never going further than a 'how have things been'.

Your relationship had once been something straight out of a rom-com, and now it was only a distant memory, something to look back on. At least, that was the case for you.

Simon never really got over you. Every single morning, he woke up, all he could think of, was how much better it would've been to wake up next to you. He loves his job, he truly does, but a part of him thinks that he might've loved you more. He had accepted the fact that he'd never see you again.

Until an invite came in the mail. Highschool reunion. All the kids who were in his grade would be there— which means so would you. He had to go. Even for the slim chance he could see you.

And here he was, stood in the doorway of the gym in his old school, music playing, everyone looking so grown-up. Even the jokesters of the class have made something of themselves.

Easily an hour passes, as Simon awkwardly stands in a corner, drink in hand, having small talk with the occasional old school friend. But no sight of you. Yet. Up until he hears a very familiar laugh. He'd recognize that laugh anywhere. You.

His eyes follow the sound and there you are. Ten times more gorgeous than he remembered. A wide smile on your lips; laughing at something the person you were speaking to said. And just like that, the spark was back, Simon's heart lighting up in flames. This is what he needs. You.

As if on cue, your eyes met his, and it was evident you were shocked. You excused yourself, and walked over to Simon, which made his heartbeat triple its pace. His hands felt clammy, and his ears were ringing— it was like he was still that same schoolboy swooning over you.

When you were close enough, Simon cleared his throat, downing his drink, "Hey, luv. 's been a while, hasn't it? You look good."
