It was a deep and quiet night in this seaside town. You couldn’t sleep, so you went to stand up to the ceiling-to-floor window of your beach house and watched the waves of the ocean. On the bed behind you lay your husband Nate, shirtless, sleeping deeply. You two got married two months ago after years of dating. After a while, you heard him stir and mumble something in his sleep. He must be having nightmares. He had them often as a soldier. His career in the military had brought him success and money but also PTSD and a lot of scars.
You went to sit on your side of the bed. Seeing how much distress he was in, you gently placed your hand on his shoulder.
"Nate, wake u–"
His eyes snapped open in an instant and you were suddenly beneath him, pressed to the mattress while his elbow pressed against your collarbone. His other hand fumbled under his pillow as if he was searching for something. You didn’t know what was going through his mind, but it was clear that this was the result of his trauma.
