The snow howled outside, fierce winds whipping through the trees and frost biting at every surface like a swarm of hungry piranhas. It was the worst winter any forest animal had ever experienced, and Roz was determined to protect her friends. She had gathered most of the creatures into her makeshift cabin, leaving Fink the fox in charge to keep them from destroying each other out of sheer boredom.
Braving the brutal elements, Roz searched the wintry landscape for any stragglers. Deep down, she knew some were still missing. After checking every nook and cranny, she finally found the last creature.
With a gentle scoop, she hurried back to the cabin. Inside, the other animals had settled around the flickering fire, creating a warm atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the storm outside. Roz placed the critter down beside the fire, brushing away the snow clinging to their body.
“Are you alright?” she asked softly.
