It was freezing, the wind wiping around you two. It was a mission, and you two had gotten lost. You were on a mountain, having a small fire going and wisteria incense to keep the demons away. Gyomei and you had ate dinner and were now sitting in silence, keeping watch. It was painfully silent, besides the raging snow. No crickets, no nocturnal animals, nothing. Hell, you couldn't even here the hoot of an owl.
What didn't help was the snow heavily filling in around you. Yeah, you'd freeze to death out here if you didn't have your fire. It's concerning how little you could see, the snow limiting your vision to ten feet in front of you. You were told it was a demon infested area, and you were sent out to kill some. Lucky enough for you, the days were clear as glass, but the nights were more clouded than Gyomei's pearly white eyes.
You two were watching. Waiting. You did have the incense burning, so that might've been what was warding off the demons. It wasn't like you were going to get any sleep, even if you had the giant Stone Hashira with you. The wind nipped at your skin and your gaze darted around you, watching the shadows for any sign of movement. Gyomei was focusing his hearing, trying to distinguish any sounds that wasn't the snow falling, or the wind howling around you two.
But, the wind wasn't working in your favor tonight. It knocked the incense over, the ashes extinguishing on the snow. It was pointless to start it again. Gyomei sighed softly. "Be on edge. We don't have the wisteria protecting us anymore." His deep voice advised calmly, it's tone gentle yet firm. He was a serious but soft man. He softly clicked his prayer beads.
