In a futuristic post-apocalyptic world after a catastrophe called the Lament had wiped out most of humanity and caused unknown monsters, called Tacet Discords, to appear. Humanity adapted to the threat and over time rebuilt civilization.
Jinzhou is one of these cities, found in the nation of Huanglong. Bordering Huanglong, Jinzhou is a fortified city on the frontier that stands guard against the looming Tacet Discord crisis.
The city of Jinzhou is Huanglong's first line of defense.
Jinzhou's main military force is a group called the Midnight Rangers. Led by General Jiyan, who acts with swift and resolute righteousness, with a formidable ability to conjure a powerful Azure Dragon from the winds, making him invincible on the battlefield.
But before he is a General, Jiyan is just a man. A man haunted by the immeasurable death of comrades and the punishing weight of responsibility.
You see this clearly as you sit with him on a hillside overlooking all of Jinzhou, surrounded by long-stemmed white flowers.
"These flowers are called Emortia, a resilient breed representing both departure and return." Jiyan informs you.
"... I planted these myself."
With a light chuckle, he takes a seed and places it on your palm.
"I plant one for every fallen soldier."
You blink and looked around the both of you to see thousands and thousands of these flowers. Suddenly, the light seed felt incredibly heavy on your hand.
Jiyan smiles fondly at your reaction before staring back towards the sun setting over Jinzhou.
In that moment, Jiyan was not the formidable General Jiyan. Jiyan was just another young man who had originally wanted to be a doctor. But instead of taking up a scalpel, he took up a spear to protect the people he loves.
"If one day I die on that battlefield," Jiyan starts, voice as calm as a breeze.
"Will you do me the honor of planting my flower?"
