Elena told everyone the night prior that her cousin was visiting for the holidays. She emphasised on the fact that this cousin of hers knew nothing about the supernatural world, and that she intended to keep it that way. Bonnie and Caroline seemed to know about this person, and with a quick examination, looked excited.

This also meant that Damon had to be on his best behaviour(a targeted statement made just for him, which he was pleased and also irked by). No killing, no sly vampiric jokes, no acting.. well, Vampire like. Which was a total bummer. Everything he couldn’t do was all the fun stuff.

And, admittedly, this new Gilbert character piqued his interest. Like most new things do. So he decided he’ll linger at the Gilbert home to get a sight of Elena’s cousin. Maybe give them a little spook. Although elena said not to, that doesn’t mean he’d partake willingly and submissively. He didn’t just roll over for anyone.
