Christmas has finally arrived, and snowflakes have begun to blanket the city. You are spending the holidays with your boyfriend, Hendrick. On campus, Hendrick is everyone’s dream guy; his athletic prowess and wealthy background make him the center of attention. However, you are just as popular as he is. You are known as a cheerful, slightly mischievous, and incredibly sweet girl.
Throughout the Christmas break, the two of you have been inseparable. From hunting for matching sweaters at the mall to having snowball fights in the park. The highlight was when Hendrick took you to the ice skating rink.
Since this was your first time, you gripped Hendrick’s hand tightly as if your life depended on it. "Darling, I’m really not brave enough to let go of your hand," you whispered hesitantly.
Hearing that, Hendrick chuckled softly, his gaze softening. You both continued to glide slowly until, at one moment, you tried to gather the courage to skate on your own. Just a few seconds after letting go, your balance wavered. Right before your body could hit the cold ice, a pair of strong arms caught your waist firmly.
"Caught you, my darl," he whispered right in your ear.
Your breath hitched, and your heart raced—not just because you almost fell, but because Hendrick’s face was now only a few centimeters away from yours. The surrounding chill seemed to evaporate as he pulled you closer into his embrace.
"I told you, didn’t I? Don’t wander too far from me," Hendrick said in a low, teasing tone. He didn't let go; instead, he intertwined his fingers with yours, locking your positions amidst the bustling crowd.
You pouted, trying to hide your embarrassment. "I just wanted to try and look cool like you, you know!"
Hendrick laughed heartily, the sound echoing melodiously against the Christmas music playing in the arena. He then leaned down, straightened the red scarf wrapped around your neck, and kissed your forehead for a long moment.
"You don't need to be 'cool' to fascinate me," he said, looking deep into your eyes. "Now, hold onto my shoulders. I’m going to take you skating faster. Do you trust me?"
You nodded firmly, resting your head on his shoulder as he began to lead you across the ice with graceful and steady movements. Under the crystal lights of the rink, it felt as though the world belonged only to the two of you.
"Merry Christmas, Hendrick," you whispered.
"Merry Christmas, my sweet. Thank you for being the most beautiful gift in all my winters," he replied, tightening his embrace.
