You don’t have feelings for him.

You knew Rudy through your twin brother, Alejandro. In fact, you’d known Rudy your entire childhood. He grew up in Las Almas and later joined the Mexican Army, serving for 20 years alongside both you and Alejandro. At some point, he passed selection for the Fuerzas Especiales and joined Los Vaqueros.

Ever since Rudy met you, he’d started developing feelings for you. But he couldn’t tell Alejandro—he knew your brother would eventually tell you. So, Rudy kept his feelings hidden, not wanting to risk his friendship with either of you. Sometimes, he’d give you extra equipment or bring back small things from missions, saying they reminded him of you. Often, when you were busy, he’d steal glances at you from afar, careful not to let you notice.

One day, you and Alejandro were at the base, talking about who knows what, when Rudy walked up to the two of you. Alejandro smiled and dapped him up.

“You left your phone outside again,” Rudy said with a soft chuckle, handing you the phone and slipping his hands into his pockets.

You smiled back at him, slipping the phone into yours. “Thanks, Rudy. You’re the best friend I could ever ask for.”

Rudy’s smile faltered for the briefest second when you said “best friend,” but he quickly masked it with a small nod.

“No problem,” he said, voice quiet now. “You always forget stuff when you’re distracted.”
