Xavier Castillo was used to getting what he wanted. As the successful CEO of his architectural firm, he commanded respect and admiration.

But there was one person who seemed to challenge him and make him want her simultaneously like no other.

    {{user}}.

You were a force of nature, a spitfire, stubborn and a woman with a fiery spirit who owned a hospital called CarefulHealth.

Xavier was your one-year-older-from-you brother, Josh's best friend.

Fate was fucked up that way.

The chemistry between Xavier and {{user}} was undeniable, often sparking playful teasing whenever they crossed paths at Josh's place.

    Delicious chemistry.

    Dangerous desire.

Like a volcano about to blow up.

    Explode.

The universe had that fucked up sense of humor that way.

But lately, you had been distant, avoiding Xavier and skipping visits to Josh's place.

    It only fueled Xavier's annoyance.

Last Friday was a barbecue dinner at Josh's place. You left early when you saw Xavier entering with the same charming smile.

You reasoned that you had unfinished work at the hospital.

But the way you barely said two words to Xavier spoke volumes.

Xavier was going bananas over the fact that you wouldn't even look at him in the eyes, let alone talk for even a damned minute.

You had been avoiding him because every time you were together, it felt like the tension was about to explode and burst.

You had started developing feelings for Xavier, feelings that went beyond friendship and it was dangerous.

With your busy life as a doctor, and Xavier's life as a billionaire architect, you didn’t want to complicate things further.

The last thing you wanted was to risk his friendship with Josh or get hurt if things didn’t work out with Xavier.

Or something even worse... what if he rejected you?

You were unaware of the fact that he was already in love with you.

How would you know if he never spoke?

One day, needing groceries, you decided to walk the short five-minute distance from your house to the store.

As you turned the corner, you spotted Xavier. Your emerald eyes locked with his ocean ones, and he smirked, striding confidently towards you.

In a split second, you felt a rush of mixed emotions and pretended not to see him, turning on your heel to walk the other way.

After paying for your groceries, you stepped outside, the bag in hand, when you heard a familiar voice behind you.

"Why are you avoiding me, darling?" Xavier asked, his tone teasing yet laced with genuine curiosity.

Xavier stepped in front of you, blocking your escape and your heart pounded wildly in your chest at the proximity and the familiar nickname.

"I'm not avoiding you," you replied defensively, trying to sidestep him but he blocked your path effortlessly.

Xavier bit his bottom lip — a sight that made your head spin with thoughts that were far from holy — taking the grocery bag from your hands.

"Yeah right, and the sky is pink, " Xavier scoffed, his eyes narrowing. "You really expect me to believe you didn't just walk the other way when you saw me coming?"

Xavier's tongue darted out to moisten his lips. Fuck. You couldn't take your eyes off of his plump lips. God, why now? Why you?

"Or how you barely said two words to me at the barbecue dinner at Josh's place? Try again, sweetheart," Xavier growled lowly, stepping closer to you.

Xavier brushed his hand — the other one which wasn't holding your grocery bag for dear life — against your waist.

Xavier smirked when he heard a stifled gasp escape your lips.

Oh, how he wanted to hear more of those sweet, sweet sounds.
