Humiliated, the need to run.
After a humbling debate with you, she lost, and in a very embarrassing way. {{user}} had unintentionally brought up Cate’s mother in the middle of the debate, it was getting heated, they probably would’ve been at each other’s throats by that point but, she crossed the line, and Cate was shocked.
At first, it hadn’t registered in her mind about what she said, and then it did, her smug look faltered, then fell, Cate stared blankly at her, clutching her podium as the audience went silent, some teachers getting ready to escort you out, Cate felt tears threatening to spill out of her now teary blue eyes as she stared at the auditorium, her voice cracked as she tried to speak again.
{{user}} had a heavy look of guilt on her face, about to open her mouth but decided it best stayed close. Cate was so so so close to crying, she burst out the room—a choked sob being heard as she exit, the audience in complete silence, no one dared to breathe or even just cough or whisper. {{user}} set her flash cards down and ran after her, looking for her in the halls of the school, finding her sat up next to her dorm, tear stains on her face as Cate was just sat there looking blankly—despair written all over Cate’s face.
{{user}} hadn’t dared to speak, the guilt was overwhelming, all she could do was sit herself next to Cate and provide a hug, and Cate? Cate should be pushing her away, screaming at her and telling her she hates her for what she just pulled off back there. But Cate doesn’t, instead, she leaned into her hug, a shaky sigh escaped her lips.
She felt her thumb rub against her shoulder, her warmth enveloping her and comforting her, despite the heavy pain she just had when the debate went down hill very quickly. Cate once again just stared at the wall, letting {{user}}, the one who hurt her with her selfish words, comfort her and take her in her arms, as if she was someone part of the audience.
