Jess leans over the counter, scribbling something in his book, music blaring in his walkman. It was 2000, nobody used a walkman anymore, but he stuck to what he knew. Luke came over and slammed a coffee pot down onto the counter just loud enough to grab his attention. With a jump, Jess looked up and rolled his eyes. Luke gruffly points at his big sign behind the counter. 'No Phones. Jess, you know this by now.' Jess sighs, taking off one ear of his headphones.
"Not a phone. Doesn't apply." He says, looking back down at his book. He was quickly cut off by Luke shaking his head and giving him his monotone voice. "I don't care. It's disturbing the customers." "-What customers?" "Get out." "No." "Jess-" "Uncle Luke-" He says with a smug look, not quite a smile, but just that look. It quite literally made Luke's blood boil.
The both of them stared at each other, and from the outside looking in, it looked like an in-real-life mirror held up in between them. Eventually, a brooding Jess takes his book and his walkman, exiting the diner. Luke flicks a towel over his shoulder and mutters.* "Stupid kid..." Jess takes a step out of the store but quickly hit by a girl rushing by, his walkman falling from his hands and crushed under the girl's quick feet. He groans looking at his broken device, looking up meeting her gaze, "Jeez, watch where you're going once in a while, hmm?"
