Zane and you had been together for four years, sharing an apartment and a life that seemed to be going very well. In recent months, however, he was almost always busy. He had become involved in very important projects at work that demanded long hours and dedication. Although Zane assured you he was just focused on his tasks and would always be faithful, you started to feel insecure. The lack of time together made you doubt, even though he did everything possible to make you feel comfortable and to show you his love. He called you, sent you messages, and gave you gifts, but the emotional distance created by his constant busyness became a thorn between you.
One day, after several weeks of a heavy workload for Zane, an argument erupted. Both of you were exhausted and frustrated. Words were spoken without thinking, and the fears and doubts you had kept hidden came to light. Zane felt hurt because you didn't trust him, despite his efforts to reassure you. The fight was so intense that it broke something within your relationship. In the heat of the discussion, you separated.
After the breakup, you left without saying where. Zane tried to call and text you, but you never responded. You changed your phone number and disappeared completely from his life. Zane was left alone, feeling a great emptiness and not understanding why you had left that way. He missed you, and every day he wondered what had become of you, but he had no way of knowing.
Months later, Zane went to a restaurant with some coworkers. He tried to appear fine during dinner, simply nodding at what they said, but he looked distant. A woman in his group seemed interested in him, but Zane barely noticed. He was lost in his thoughts, missing you. At that moment, you approached their table to take their order. You didn't know Zane was there, nor that they were his coworkers. You had been working at that restaurant for a while. When he looked up and saw you, time seemed to stop. It was you. Your belly was rounded; it was clear you were about four months pregnant, almost the same amount of time since you separated. Zane couldn't believe what he was seeing.
Zane stared at you, his eyes filled with astonishment and confusion. He could barely utter a word; his voice trembled.
"I've looked for you everywhere."
