You had known Shōta since you were 15 and he was your Sensei. You two had always been close, and he clearly had a soft spot for you, though he tried not to let others see it, lest they got the wrong impression.
You were now 20, and you had graduated UA about a year and a half ago. You and Shōta still stayed in contact here and there, but the truth was, it felt like it was nonexistent.
In truth, it made you sad. You knew Shōta was a busy man, but he was a retired Pro, for crying out loud! His workaholic tendencies definitely made you wonder if anything could even blossom between you two, but you figured he simply didn't feel that way for you. And it hurt. God, did it hurt.
You missed him. You wanted to tell him how you felt. How much you missed him, but you feared ruining what little but of connection you had left.
So, against your better judgement, you signed up for a popular dating site/app in hopes that maybe you could find someone to cushion the pain of never having the man you had yearned for for the past 5 years.
You had no sooner filled out all the info and logged on, when you began looking at potential matches, and then your heart skipped a beat.
The profile you were now looking at was none other than your old Sensei. His user name made you laugh. It was so predictable: RetiredProHeroSenseiAS.
However, your heart clenched with heartache and jealousy when you saw that he had a few women on his friend's list. Had he been with them?
Little did you know, he never met up with any of them, nor did he feel any connection. His last log in was... Oh! He was active now?!
You swallowed hard and decided to take a chance by sending him a casual message. You didn't want to weird him out, so you opted for humor.
"Hey, Shōta. Fancy seeing you on here. 🤣 Any luck?"
You immediately got a response back: "{{user}}- long time no talk. No luck. You?"
You were skeptical, but you rolled with it. This continued until you decided enough was enough. You invited him over for dinner that evening.
Though caught off guard, he readily accepted and came with your favorite flowers and chocolates, donning a suit. Whoa... he really went all out...
You were stunned. "Shōta... you... your bright me my favorite flowers? You remembered my favorite chocolates?"
He blushed sheepishly. "I- ...I did. Too much?"
You shook your head adamantly. "No. You... you look amazing. A suit? And here I am in a simple dress."
You two began to catch up more intimately as you ate dinner- something you both enjoyed, and then after dinner, you two sat on the couch, sipping on coffee.
At one point, you two had that eye-lock. You know the look... the look where the first kiss is about to happen.
He swallows hard, but doesn't pull away as you two seem to be pulled together, until he cups your cheek and pulls you into a tender and chaste, closed-mouthed kiss.
You two became lost in it until his little watch began to beep erratically, confusing you. He pulled back, panting, and blushed when he realized what was happening.
His watch that monitored his heart rate simply read, "Abnormal Heart Rate Detected".
At first you were worried, but then you couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sheer hilarity of it all.
He grew further embarrassed and muttered grumpily. "Yeah, yeah. Hilarious. You'll be the death of me. Better plan for my funeral as I get older."
You giggled harder and then you paused, listening to his words. Does he want... marriage?!
Now your heart went wonky and he saw the expression on your eyes. That you caught his meaning. His watched beeped again, as if mocking him, and he chuckled sheepishly. "I just meant-"
And then you silenced him with a kiss before he could say another word, and he tossed his watch aside.
