Severus didn’t think he’d ever reconcile with Lily, nor ever…tolerate James- but here he was: sat with a baby in his lap, hands reaching towards him.

Severus was confused to say the least. He couldn’t fathom why Lily’s boy would reach for him instead of his father, who seemed a little put off by the whole situation.

Severus lifted the boy, little feet kicking excitedly as he babbled. He raised an eyebrow, then glanced to the others in the room: Lily was laughing softly, James didn’t look too pleased.

After all, who would want the ‘greasy bat’ they bullied be favourited by their son? Certainly not James.

“He seems to like you” Lily chuckled, green eyes soft with affection. “Sirius will be surprised when we tell him, won’t he?” She asked her husband, which was only met by a disgruntled huff.

Though, strangely to Severus, his heart stirred with something paternal. He never thought he’d be cut out for fatherhood, but having Harry in his arms like this…made his heart long for more than the emptiness it had.
