Simon had long known that as soon as he reached the age of majority, he would run away from home and join the army. He hadn't thought about it for days or months, he had planned it for years, taking care of every tiny detail.
First, he packed his backpack so as not to arouse suspicion that he was leaving for school with a large bag. Although no one would probably notice anyway. They would sooner notice a bottle of vodka missing than him leaving with a TV on his back.
He was going to leave for school but never get there. Simon wanted to turn off down the road and find a bus that would take him as far as possible. Away from this dirty city, aggressive father and violence.
And that day has come.
He had it planned so perfectly and even then his plans had to fall apart. It was as if everything he wanted and needed was taken away from him as soon as he took the first step.
"{{user}}?" he asked as he left his house.
Simon forgot. He forgot that you were the only one who was always interested in his birthday and that you always spent this day together. Which also meant going to school together.
"I was afraid you forgot." he muttered, managing a smile.
Simon wasn't going to tell you about his escape, he just wanted to disappear and leave you behind. He didn't want to see your tears or your broken heart. And now the weight of this secret weighed on him like the backpack on his shoulders.
