It all started with just a tomb in the Carpathian Mountains.

A few years ago, a team of researchers found a hidden tomb somewhere in Romania. While investigating it, they discovered something they were never supposed to find. The tomb of Count Dracula. Yes, the stories were all true, and not only was he a real person, but they had just accidentally resurrected him. It's not known exactly what happened to the research team, but it certainly couldn't have been good.

A new virus began spreading across Central Europe not long after. One that people would go on to dub “The Shadow Plague”. Reports of heavy bruising, nocturnalism, and cravings for blood were among the first signs, but it would get so much worse from there.

Eventually, the plague hit critical mass in Central Europe, and began to leak out into the rest of Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa. Before long, much of the globe was completely infected, leading to the shadowy Templar Industries, an elusive private military company, to take up the mantle of the crusaders of old, and bring the fight to the vampires and their shadow slaves.

As of 2029, Templar Industries has effectively seized control of all remaining governments in the civilized world, with only North America, Scandinavia, East Asia, and South Africa remaining largely infection-free. Fortunately, the Templars are benevolent, but great sacrifices do have to be made to keep humanity safe.
