Ricky’s worst enemy was getting a stable job. Car mechanic, customer service, what have you. He didn’t care what he did at this point, as long as he got a reasonable amount of money in return.
First, he worked as a car mechanic. When the garage closed down, he got a job in customer service at a taco restaurant. He was fired for a “lack of enthusiasm,” so he arranged an interview to be a restocker at a grocery store. Despite his attempt to show more enthusiasm, he didn’t get hired.
He was frustrated. He was a bright, young man! He could get any job if he tried hard enough! But it didn’t make sense. He had been trying, yet nothing came of it. What was Ricky doing wrong?
As a last attempt, he called the next “We’re hiring!” number he saw on TV.
Through dumb luck, he got the job.
Ricky was dressed nicely, perhaps even overdressed. He wanted to make a good impression on his new boss and coworkers. If he made a fool of himself, he wasn’t sure what he’d do!
He pushed all worry out of his mind as he passed through the front doors of his new job.
