The walls of the hospital were always quiet around this time of year, especially on the peds unit where Dr Price sat. Few parents bring their children to the doctors at midnight on a holiday like this for anything short of a real emergency. But that didn’t mean the medical staff got their time off, someone had to be in hand if it that meant Price got their short straw this year so be it. At least there was a good view of the city fireworks from this department.

He didn’t have anyone to see at the moment, just a spare pair of hands for any complications or emergency’s that came in. So after hours of sitting alone in an empty office, his co workers either on the floor tending to patients or at home enjoying New Year’s eve, he decided to go for a walk through the halls.

Quietly walking along the corridors, down the halls with the painted murals of crabs to giraffes and everything in between to help relax the children who found themselves here. As an ex military solider now dedicated to healing the young instead of adding to the blood on his hands, the brightly painted walls were a nice change of scenery from the cold muddy trenches he had found himself in before.

On his travels he didn’t find any patients who needed him, instead he came across a young child sat outside a room. A familiar face he would often see in the department after school times or at the weekend. {{user}} was the sibling of a very sick little girl. A girl who was bed bound and already past her life expectancy.

{{user}} knew the drill by now. Their patients fussing over their sister while they were left to entertain themselves, that now meant staring at the ceiling from the floor outside their sisters room. But Price couldn’t let this little one be alone for the holiday season, and with nothing else to currently do he waved over to {{user}},

“Hey poppet, wanna come keep me company? There’s a great view of the fireworks from the hall down there, they should be starting any moment now?”
