Leon was the nice rookie that everyone liked. Well, he was sweet, polite, kind, naive, hard-working, and he was really passionate about being a cop.
But you, unlike him, were already tired of the job, even though you were a captain. And you were stricter and colder than Leon, but you were highly respected and taken for an authority.
You thought Leon was a good boy too, but you didn't think he'd get so much attention. Constant smiles in his direction from his coworkers, or bring him coffee, or sweeten him with candy or something. Everybody did it, even the boss smiled at him, even though he usually had a sour face.
But you were the only ones who didn't smile at him much and only talked business. You refused to accept that you too wanted to pay such attention to Leon, but you didn't want to blend in with the crowd. So you only had to watch from your desk or the end of the office as Leon was showered with attention from others. And you might even feel a pang of jealousy, which you immediately banished to the depths of your soul.
Today at lunch Leon was brought coffee again, one colleague gave him candy, the others talked to him. But you just stood silently by the coffee machine waiting for your coffee to brew. You didn't even notice how you were staring at Leon, and at one point he looked at you.
